The Simple Snail Trap - Safely and Easily Remove Pest Snails!
The Simple Snail Trap is the easiest way to safely, humanely, and easily remove pest snails from your aquarium without risking any of your plants or livestock. Simply place bait inside the container, snap on the lid, and place somewhere in your tank. Snails can easily climb in but can’t easily get out due to our clever design! Works great for pond snails, bladder snails, ramshorn snails, Malaysian trumpet snails (MTS), and more. Our improved design also includes a loop in the top, so you can easily attach a string to remove the snail trap from your aquarium without even getting your hands wet.
Most pest snails are beneficial to your ecosystem in controlled numbers by helping decompose waste, aerate soil, and clean algae. The Simple Snail Trap is a great way to control the snail population without massacring all the decomposers in your ecosystem using toxic chemicals or predators.
For best results, we recommend using a slice of fresh Zucchini, blanched for a few seconds in boiling water. Other great baits include algae wafers, sliced cucumber, and watermelon rinds. Naturally, the effectiveness of this trap relies almost entirely on how effective the bait is, so we do strongly recommend using Zucchini as most snails tend to prefer it in our testing. You may need to try different baits depending on what your snails prefer.
PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH OR DISCARD THE SNAILS YOU REMOVE! Pest snails reproduce extremely quickly and are extremely invasive. Please be a responsible aquarist and do not risk introducing them to your local ecosystem. After removing the snails from your tank, you can bring them to your local fish store for store credit, sell them online, or humanely euthanize them using boiling water or a garbage disposal.
