Who We Are

I’m Grant. I love aquariums, pirates, cats, fish, shrimp, and especially plants. And my goal with Sunken Treasure Aquatics is to help anyone and everyone enjoy my hobby as much as I do. I want to offer easy, cheap ways for anyone to build beautiful planted tanks, and I want to offer reputable advice to make sure everyone can have a beautiful planted tank, or a beautiful shrimp colony.

Here at Sunken Treasure Aquatics I make a point to only stock and sell things that I myself find interesting. Anything that I don’t personally think is awesome isn’t worth selling, so every single product you purchase here is something I’ve genuinely poured my heart and soul into. Every product is something I take pride in, and something I think will truly improve your aquarium experience.

I’m not here to make a quick buck or anything, I just want to share my love of aquatics with the world and help anyone and everyone build awesome tanks and care for beautiful wildlife.

Site Policies

Sadly I do need a few rules to make sure I don’t bankrupt myself! Please consider each of these policies, but remember that your enjoyment of the hobby is absolutely #1 in my book. Please ask me about any issue and I’ll be happy to do everything I can to make sure you’re satisfied with whatever you receive.

SHIPPING

I do my best to package everything as well as possible. All plants will be wrapped in wet paper towels and insulated in foil/foam insulation packs. Bundles o Treasure (Plant bundles) won’t always include identification for the plants, but we’ll happily ID plants for free.
Any livestock will be shipped in safe bags, heat packs (if needed), extra thermal insulation, and ammonia absorbers.

Plants are shipped via UPS 3 Day Ground, and animals are shipped via UPS 2 Day. We’re happy to ship using different services if you prefer.

If you’re local to Richmond, VA you’re more than welcome to pickup! Please ask us!


DOA CLAIMS

If your plants or animals unfortunately arrive dead, don’t worry! Please capture a clear photo of the dead product in the packaging (if possible) as quickly as possible after delivery. We request that you send us a photo within 5 hours of receiving the animals, or within 24 hours of receiving the plants. We get that life happens though, so please just reach out as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to make sure you’re satisfied.

Please do not dispose of any dead plants or animals until you have photographed them and contacted us! We may request additional photos for your claim!

We will be happy to replace any product that doesn’t make it, provided we still have it in stock. Alternately, we’ll also happily offer you store credit for the amount of dead stock, and work with you to ensure you’re happy with your next purchase.

ONE MONTH LIVE PLANT GUARANTEE

We guarantee every single plant we sell- even if it arrives perfectly fine. We’ll credit the full cost of any plant that dies within one month (30 days) of delivery so long as the following conditions are met.

  1. The customer has reached to us via email, chat, or any other chat method at least once inquiring about the dying plant(s) or pre-purchase advice.

  2. *The customer can provide image verification of the “Tech Level” of their tank, and that matches the plant.
    For example, a “HIGH TECH PLANT” (Identified in each listing) would require the customer to verify they have a “high tech” tank, with CO2 and a high end light, and a “MID TECH PLANT” would require the customer to verify they have a mid-tier light and some sort of nutrients in the substrate.     Note that “Mid Tech” is fairly subjective, so the claim will be approved/denied on a case-by-case basis depending on the user’s tank and the description of the particular plant.

  3. The customer provides an image of the dead/dying plant (before it fully melts).

If these conditions are met, we will give you store credit worth the full value of each plant that died. Please reach out to us via chat or email to ask about our guarantee and how you can redeem it!

* An exception to this rule is for plant packages. If the customer did correctly specify their tank’s tech level in the popup when ordering a plant package, then all of their plants are guaranteed no matter the plant. If we accidentally sent a plant that is too high tech for their tank, we’ll honor that.

PLANT SIZES AND INFO

We intentionally sell smaller portions of plants than most other websites. Why? Plants grow! I believe the best way for someone to plant their tank is to be patient, so if they can stock their tank with a huge variety of beautiful plants for cheap then in the end, customers will have a much better experience than just buying 3-4 big plants.

Many plants will “melt” when added to a new tank, or will convert to your tank’s new parameters. Plants grow differently with different lighting, nutrients, pH, hardness, etc and thus will ‘ignore’ their old leaves and focus on new growth. Because of this, many large plants you may purchase from other sites will wind up looking extremely dull until you can trim off the old growth and replant the new growth.

Our plants are priced to be cheaper than nearly any competitors, and we will send you enough to grow your own plants with ease, and you won’t be wasting your money on huge plants that you’ll end up discarding anyway in exchange for new growth.

Please note that plants are also grown in tanks which naturally may have algae and snails with them. We do our best to clean each plant but can’t guarantee plants will be snail free.

RETURNS

We do not accept returns for any livestock except for special circumstances. Please beware that if you purchase plants, animals, etc we unfortunately cannot offer returns because of the unlikeliness they will survive return shipping. We will, however, be happy to work with you if you’re unsatisfied with your purchase.

Any physical (nonliving) products may be returned no problem. Please reach out to us and we’ll provide a paid postage return.

Please do note that there is a 20% restocking fee for opened or used items.
